Dinner in Chingford. Fridays and Saturdays. Worth staying local for.

You shouldn’t have to get on a train just to have a decent evening out.

Casa opens Friday and Saturday evenings from 6pm. The kitchen shifts up a gear. The bar does its thing. The place goes from neighbourhood café to somewhere you’d actually dress up for — and it’s two minutes from Chingford station.

Candlelight, cocktails, food that takes a bit more time than breakfast. That’s it. No dress code, no pretension, no noise so loud you’re basically lip-reading. Just a really good Friday or Saturday night, without the Central Line.

Tables go fast. Book it.

What's on in the evening

Start with the crispy squid — aioli, lemon, done. Or the burrata if you want something a bit more considered. The charcuterie board is good for sharing if you’re not in a rush to get to the main.

Mains. The ribeye is dry-aged, properly rested, with café de Paris butter and frites. It’s the one. The teriyaki salmon is glazed right through, not just on top, and the asparagus alongside it is cooked — not raw, not mush. The Korean fried chicken with hot honey is for anyone who wants something with a bit of attitude. The house pasta changes weekly and it always goes first, so — get in early on that one.

Desserts — Basque cheesecake, profiterole with dark chocolate ganache, French toast with salted caramel and honeycomb gelato. Cheese board if you want to sit and finish the wine properly. Nobody’s rushing you.

The bar

The espresso martini is made with real espresso. Not a mix, not a syrup — actual espresso. You notice it straight away.

Porn Star Martini with a prosecco shot on the side, the way it should come. Spicy margarita with real chilli. Paloma — tequila, strawberry, lime, grapefruit soda — the most reordered thing on the list. Amaretto Sour with egg white if you want to look like you know what you’re doing. Aperol spritz if you just want something cold and easy.

Wine by the glass — red, white, rosé, prosecco. Short list, right bottles, fair prices. Mocktails that are actually made properly for anyone not drinking.

The room in the evening is quiet enough to have a conversation. Warm light. Candles. The kind of atmosphere that makes the bill feel worth it.
